Prep/Years 1/2 news

Welcome to Term 3!

We have got a very busy term ahead and we thought that we would use this opportunity to let you know about all the fantastic things that we will be doing.

Maths

This term in Maths we will be focusing on:

• counting patterns
• counting on
• money (coins)
• time
• simple addition and subtraction

Literacy

During our Literacy sessions, we will be looking at the following letters:
d, j, v, x, n, q, g, y, u and i.

In Writing students will be encouraged to:

• stretch out words
• use spaces
• use full stops
• use capital letters
• write familiar words correctly

Maths and Writing at Home

Soon your child will start bringing home a writing bag or box and a Maths box. (If you dont receive it straight away, don’t worry, you will see it shortly!) We send these things home to encourage your child’s enjoyment of writing and number. It is very important that these things be returned to school the following day to ensure other children can enjoy them too! Please do not let younger children play with these items as we would like to ensure that the boxes or bags do not get broken.

Integrated Studies

Over Term 3, students will be exploring three topics for investigation- Confidence, People Who Help Us and Super Kids.

In People Who Help Us students will learn about:

• Police
  
• Fire Brigade
  
• Ambulance Service
  
• Doctors

In Super Kids, students will discover:

• how they can be like Superheroes
  
• how to live the school’s values
  

Values

Throughout the school year, students are expected to demonstrate each of the school’s five values. These Values are : Honesty and Trust, Responsibility and Independence, Respect and Tolerance, Positive Attitude Towards Self and Others and Learning. To reinforce their understanding of the values students participated in the school’s Values Day during the first week back, and did lots of fun activities and had a great day!

Kinder to Prep Orientation Program

The Preps have already been spending a lot of time visiting our friends in the Kindergarten and during November the Kindergarten children will be coming into the Prep rooms to meet all the children that will be in Prep with them next year.
